First introduced in 1957, this car was almost immediately considered as a vehicle that would bring motoring to the masses. Designed as a four seat utility car, it was as cheap as it was tiny, and more importantly, it was also compared to go-karts because of its handling and performance. Even today you can easily find a used Fiat 500 and buy for yourself this fine piece of Italian motorisation.
The basic version of a used Fiat 500 is equipped with a small, air cooled and rear mounted 0. 5 litre engine producing a whopping 18 horsepower. Due to its lack of power, the used Fiat 500 was capable of reaching 0 to 50 mph( 0 to 80 km/h )in almost 30 seconds. The maximum speed was also rather low, oscillating about 55 mph( 90 km/h ). But that wasn’t the last word of Italian engineers and in 1963 the more powerful, tuned version was introduced by Abarth. The increase was just stunning – the most powerful variant was equipped with a 40 horsepower engine, and the maximum speed increased to over 90 mph( 145 km/h ). This power combined with a really lightweight body( about 735 kg )surprisingly gave a used Fiat 500 a real sports car’s soul and it is still used in many amateur race series.
